Dog & Field: Gundog Training Equipment

Dog & Field began with a dog, a training problem and an idea.

From a Long Line Lead to Dog & Field

Over ten years ago, while training his own dog, our founder Colin found himself searching for a long line lead that properly suited what he needed. Unable to find exactly what he was looking for, he saw an opportunity to create something better, and from that first idea, Dog & Field was born.

What started with one piece of training equipment has grown into the business we are today, supplying gundog training equipment to handlers and their dogs across the UK, Europe and around the world.

As the business grew, so did the team behind it. Bringing together different experiences, knowledge and ideas has played a huge part in shaping Dog & Field and allowing us to continually develop what we offer. While that original passion for finding better solutions remains at the heart of the company, today it is very much a team effort.

Innovation With a Purpose

Product development has become a huge part of who we are.

We are constantly looking at the equipment used in everyday gundog training and thinking about what we can do differently. Sometimes that means improving a traditional piece of kit, other times it means starting with a completely new idea and developing something that hasn't been available to handlers before.

For us, innovation always needs to have a purpose. We don't want to create products simply because they are different. They need to solve a problem, make training more effective, introduce greater variety or help create more realistic training scenarios.

Home of the Original Dead Bird Dummy

Over the years, this approach has led us to bring a number of new ideas and innovative designs to the gundog world. We are particularly proud to be the original designers and manufacturers of the renowned Dead Bird Dummy, part of our Original Clone range of feather-print training dummies. It was an industry first for Dog & Field and remains a great example of the way we approach product development.

Developed With the Gundog Community

Behind every new idea is a process of research, development, testing and refinement. Our own experience is combined with feedback and knowledge from people throughout the gundog community, including experienced handlers and trainers across the UK and Europe. That connection with the people actually using our equipment is incredibly important to us.

Today, our range has grown from that original long line lead into an extensive collection of training equipment, covering everyday essentials through to specialist products designed for more advanced and challenging training.

Supporting The British Retriever Trophy

Despite how much Dog & Field has grown, we have worked hard to keep the values that the business was built on. We remain a close team, passionate about the products we create, the service we provide and the community we are part of.

From one idea over a decade ago to a team continually developing what comes next, Dog & Field has evolved enormously, but our approach remains simple: listen, learn, develop and keep bringing new ideas to the gundog world.

We are incredibly proud to be supporting The British Retriever Trophy and to be part of an event that celebrates the dogs, handlers and community at the heart of our sport.
