About the british retriever trophy

A best-in-class, UK-based gundog competition dedicated exclusively to elite retriever gundogs.

Launching June 2027With the Inaugural Event in June 2027, the aim is to deliver a best-in-class Working Test for Retriever Gundogs, representing the ultimate experience for their individual Handlers and Spectators alike.  The BRT will not only be a landmark event in its own right, but it is hoped will act as a foundation for the future growth and development of the sport.

Elevating Working Tests for Gundogs

At its core, The BRT aims to create a best-in-class competition for elite Working Retrievers and their individual Handlers.

While gundog working tests are widely recognised and respected within the community, there has long been an opportunity to create challenging tests for gundogs, whilst at the same time delivering a brilliant experience for handlers and spectators alike.

A Dummy-Based Approach

The British Retriever Trophy is conducted exclusively as a dummy-based competition.

This format allows the competition to be run across a wider range of locations and seasons, without the logistical and licensing requirements associated with live game.

The standard of work expected remains high. Dummies will be presented to replicate real hunting scenarios as closely as possible, ensuring the competition reflects the skills needed in the field.

For full details on how the competition is judged and run, please refer to our Rules & Regulations.

A Foundation for the FutureThe 2027 event represents the first step in a broader vision. Our intention is to grow the scale, reach, and impact of The British Retriever Trophy in the years that follow.
